Obama Courting Evangelicals Once Loyal to Bush

By JOHN M. BRODER New York Times.  Mr. Obama and his advisers are seeking support not only among relatively moderate evangelicals because of their opposition to the war. They are also trying to take advantage of signs that some conservative Christians are rethinking their politics, urged along by a new generation of leadership and intensified concern about issues including climate change, genocide, AIDS and poverty.

Reporters Say Networks Put War on Back Burner

by Brian Stetler,The New York Times. Five years into the war in Iraq and nearly seven years into the war in Afghanistan, getting news of the conflicts onto television is harder than ever. Almost halfway into 2008, the three newscasts have shown 181 weekday minutes of Iraq coverage, compared with 1,157 minutes for all of 2007. The "CBS Evening News" has devoted the fewest minutes to Iraq, 51, versus 55 minutes on ABC's "World News" and 74 minutes on "NBC Nightly News."
