A
LITANY OF JOYS AND SORROWS All:
Joys and sorrows. Voice 1:
Our life is a constant prayer, one minute praising God for our joys, the next
turning to God for strength in our sorrows. All:
Joys and sorrows. Voice 2:
I praise God for friendship and freedom, and the five for five deal at the video
store! Voice 3:
I praise God for empathy, and life, and health and family… Voice 4:
But there are many who have no family, or whose families are torn by domestic
violence, child abuse, sexual abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, parents who are too
young, or simply irresponsible. We
lift those people up to you, God. All:
Joys and sorrows. Voice 5:
I praise God for ice cream, mint chip, rocky road, rainbow sherbet, gold medal
ribbon, chocolate chip… Voice 6:
Any kind of chocolate! Voice 7:
…black raspberry, and all of Ben and Jerry’s!!! Voice 8:
But there are many that hardly have enough to eat, much less ice cream.
There are those who are hungry, who are jobless, homeless, whose
countries are torn by war and natural disaster. We lift those people up to you, God. All:
Joys and sorrows. Voice 9:
I praise God for church, a community where different people come together to
worship and celebrate and care for each other. Voice 10:
A place where we meet new people, see old friends, and know that lots of people
outside our families care for us. Voice 11:
But there are those who have no community or have communities of destruction.
Gangs, peer pressure, hate crimes, racism, rape, S.T.D.’s, the general
rudeness in society mirrored or fanned by an exploitative media.
We lift those people whose communities are touched by these things up to
you, God. All:
Joys and sorrows. Voice 12:
I praise God for music. For country and western, for R and B, for rap and
reggae, and rock and roll, and classical, and the silly songs my little sister
sings in the car. Voice 13:
I praise God for life, and I weep for all those whose hearts and spirits and
bodies are dying. Voice 14:
Our life is a constant prayer, one minute praising god for our joys, the next
turning to God for strength in our sorrows. All:
