PREPARATION #1 Candle
Liturgy (5 minutes) Materials
needed: Two copies of the liturgy Three candles Invite members of the group volunteer to read the parts of
this liturgy and light the candles. Because
of the high rate of dyslexia and other learning differences it is important to
ask for volunteers, but never force someone to read aloud.
Gather your group around the three candles and begin. Reader 1: Our God is a God who loves both the poor and rich
equally. Wealth is not a sign of
God’s greater love or favor. Reader 2: We light this candle to remember God’s love for
all people. (Light the first candle) Reader 1: Jesus said in Luke chapter six that the poor are
blessed, and that theirs is the kingdom of heaven; that if they are hungry now,
they will be filled. Reader 2: We light this candle to remember Jesus’ care and
concern for the poor. (Light the second candle) Reader 1: The Holy Spirit moves us to action, reflecting God
in whose image we were created, and love all people regardless of their economic
status. Reader 2: We light this candle to remember the Holy
